Callypso (Callie Boy for short) was the third cat to join my family. When I was a junior in High School, it seemed like all my friends were getting kittens, so naturally, I wanted one too! Along came Callie. Callie was the most gentle soul on the planet. The most layed back guy ever. I took him with me in the care to my then boyfriends house to play with his cats, I’d carry him upside down, he was just a big (really big) mush!!
When I moved to Phoenix, my mom wanted me to get settled before the cats came, so I reluctantly went without him and my other baby, Lucky (her story to be posted soon). When I got to Phoenix I was so lonely…my first time away from home, from my animals, I needed a friend. So, I ended up getting another love, Casey (her story to be posted soon too!). When my mom was to come visit next she was to bring Callie and Lucky with her. But, my mom had a secret love she had been hiding for Callie. She really wanted him too!! She had just lost Doodle, and thought it only fair that I have two and she have two. I agreed, though I was going to miss him! So Callie stayed with my mom. By the time I moved back to Durango, he was so content there, I couldn’t bare to take him away.
Callie passed on a couple of years ago. He had a good life and was a great cat. I miss him terribly but know I will see him one day over the Rainbow Bridge. Love you Calypso!!

the other day the light in our house was so pretty, the sun was coming in at just the right angle. Picasso and Emma were really enjoying so i took photo’s. enjoy.

Seal was the second kittie to join my family. When I was in thrid grade my friend Cara’s cat had two kittens. Seal was so funny, she was this little gray thing and lo and behold, she wouldn’t walk right! She would drag her back legs around like she was a seal (thus the name). The Dr’s said nothing was wrong with her, and she eventually grew out of it…but it was pretty silly.
Seal was for sure a one of a kind. When she was a kitten she was tiny…but boy did she grow, and I mean grow big and fat. She got tons of excercise…she was just very rotund! I would have LOVED to squeeze her belly but for most of her life she really didn’t like to be pet, she got along fine with the other cats and dog but just wasn’t so into humans. We respected her space, and she enjoyed it. She lived a wonderfully happy life. When she got a little older she finally came around, she decided that maybe we were not so bad after all. She let us pet her and in the end, she even became a lap cat.
Seal passed on when she was around 10 years old. She was a good cat, spunky and hearty…she will be in my memory forever. Love you Seal!!

Seal Cat
Doodle was my very first cat. I’m still not sure when exactly she came into our family but it was either before I was born or when I was just a baby. Doodle was the best cat. She loved cuddling, she loved the sun, she loved rolling in the dirt, she loved Maximo, she loved turkey, she was astounding. Beautifully grey, with striking green eyes, she was a dazzler. Doo doos lived out her life in delight, utterly content. She crossed over the rainbow bridge when I was 18 years old, living in Phoenix. Mom had a classic Doodle day for her last day; they lounged in the warmest sun, rolled in the dirtiest dirt, and ate some superb turkey. She was ready, content with the life she had lived. And who could ask for more than that. I love you Doodle, can’t wait to see you again someday.
I love kitties. They are the best ever!! What a life…eat, relax, play, be groomed, be spoiled. If I could be a cat…I totally would
Alas…I am one of those strange creatures they call humans…so I choose to surround myself with my furry little friends instead. I volunteer for a wonderful no-kill cat shelter, KittyKind (see sidebar!!), and have 4 of my very own furry friends. Brother Bucky has cut me off…but I couldn’t ask for a better four. Meet the Royal Family…
King Apollo
Apollo really is the King!! He came to me in October 2005 as a foster with his brother Yoda, they were 10 years old. His wonderful owner, Shan, had to take care of her mother in Africa and was to be traveling back and forth. Since all my kitties at the time were still in Colorado with my mom and yet to join me in NY, I was lonely! So Apollo and Yoda came to live with me. Apollo and I instantly bonded. He is very regal and one of the most beautiful kitties ever. He is very mellow, loving, and talkative! He rules over his kingdom by perching himself on the highest point in the house.
Queen Emma
Queen Emma was the next to join my bunch. After Yoda passed on, I decided Apollo needed a friend. I was volunteering at KittyKind so there was endless kitties to choose from. How do you pick a cat when there are so many? My cats have always come to me, I’ve never really chosen them, so I didn’t know how. After searching for a while, a pair of sisters came in, Emma and Little Girl. Emma was not a happy camper in the cage, she bit, scratched, lashed out, and stopped eating. She became in danger of starving herself to death so was off to Dr. G. to have a feeding tube put in her neck. During the time Emma was gone, Little Girl was still at KittyKind. I thought to myself, a sister who lost her sister would be a good match for a brother who lost his brother! However, after discussing with Emily (one of our amazing adoption reps), Emma was the one to come home with me instead of Little Girl, we just could risk Emma going back to KittyKind and becoming depressed again.
So, I waited for Emma… and waited…and waited! She was at Dr. G’s for a long time! I think it ended up being around 2-3 months. Alas, I was finally able to pick her up in September 2006, she was 11 years old. The transition of bringing Emma home was not easy. It got so bad I thought I might actually have to return her…which broke my heart. We tried a slow introduction and after a while, could have both cats out. But whenever Emma would see Apollo she would attack! Poor Apollo would run away and hide under my covers. Emma said…I’m the Queen you silly King…stay out of my territory! But, eventually, she calmed down and they became friends. They have a mutual understanding between them.
Prince Picasso
Ahh…the young bratty prince. Picasso came to me through KittyKind, he was just a baby when he was there and one of the ones that really got to me. He is beautiful, a very handsome kitty. Whenever you would open the cage to clean it he would leap out onto your shoulder, nuzzle his face in your neck, purr, and basically swoon you to no end. Every week I went in and every week he was still there…I couldn’t understand it. He was my favorite for weeks…then I realized, he was meant to be with me. So I took him in January 2007, he was 5 months old.
He really is a classic Prince. He struts around with his chest puffed out, swatting at everything in play, trying to be like King Apollo, beating up the bunch (including me), but really… he is just a big baby, but only in secret…when no one else is looking.
Princess Mika
Mika came to me with her brother Picasso. When she was at KittyKind you couldn’t even touch her. She was so scared, so timid, she would hide in the back of the cage and let Picasso have all the attention. She was tiny in comparison to her brother. When I came to pick up Picasso she was still in the cage with him… I thought to myself, I can’t just leave her and take him!! So, at the slightest mention to Emily, she said… “Oh! Take them both, if it doesn’t work out you can bring her back”. So she was mine, she came home in January 2007, 5 months old.
It took a bit for Mika to be comfortable, and she is still getting more comfortable every day. She is a different cat from the cat at the store. Though still tiny as can be, she is adorable, and she knows it. She saunters around and says, look at me, I’m soooo cute! Then she runs away and just when you think you are not going to catch her she throws herself down and lets you pet her to no end. What a mush.
So, that is my current kitty family… and what a bunch they are! It is the perfect balance right now…I couldn’t ask for more…and in fact cannot…or else brother Bucky would kick me
