in case you were wondering, yes…there will be more! are you tired of them yet?!

49Its love your Mother Earth Day…do something extra special today to stay intune with nature, love the earth :)   I figured since its Earth Day I’d like to share some Earth with you!  These art globes are part of an exhibition in Southern California, Cool Globes.  Its public art with a purpose. 50 very colorful globes are on display, each globe showcasing a simple way to overcome global warming.  Here are some of my favorites.  Be sure to check out the rest…or even better, see it in person.

127“Being green doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive! Simple everyday actions can save energy and money. Teenie Greenie advocates that small changes can make a big difference. Imagine if we all turned off the water when brushing our teeth, shut down our computers at night, used manual can openers, or bought recycled napkins. These simple steps would add up!

Take it from environmental activist Laurie David, “One thing about helping the environment is it’s not about being perfect…I’m not a perfect person, and I don’t tell people to do everything possible. However, I do want them to do something.” Adopt some teenie greenie habits today!”

Bordering all of these amazing sculptural pieces is a wonder in itself.  Placed atop the walls adorned with individual works of art are enormous snakes, each snake is double headed and faces another.  They surround the whole garden.

the detail on these pieces is phenomenal.  there are numerous sculptures and sides to each totem pole.  and every inch of every sculpture is covered in tiny pebbles, rocks, and glass.  its simply amazing.  even more to come soon!!

Out in the middle of a barren-esq land, east of San Diego, lies an absolute wonderland, Queen Califia’s Magical Circle.  This amazing large-scale sculptural environment by Niki de Saint Phalle is one of only four in the world, the only in the US.  Work on the piece was begun in 1999 and completed in 2003, one year after Niki’s death.  Niki loved the San Diego area and wanted to contribute something back, so she created this magical garden to do just that.  The inspiration behind the pieces is the early Californian history, myths, and legends as well as the Native American and Meso-American cultures.  Perhaps this is why I’m so drawn to it.  Being born and raised in the Southwestern US, I was always surrounded by these influences.  Now that I’m on the East Coast, I truly realize the uniqueness of that area, the beauty, the imagination it holds, and the feel of the land.

Queen Califia’s Magical Circle really is wonderfully magical.  I could have stayed there for hours.  Every time you look at a piece you see something new.  The detail is…well, you’ll see for yourself in the pictures that follow.  I will be posting the pictures for this in a few posts…as I have a gazillion…and I’m sure, there are still areas I didn’t get.  If you ever have the opportunity to see any of her work, go.  Experience it.  Embrace it.  Enjoy.
